EW Wald & Benetics: Digital Transformation Has No Age Limit

The Elektrizitätswerk Wald (EW Wald) supplies electricity to around 10,000 residents in the Zürcher Oberland and offers a wide range of energy and building technology services. Since 2023, the team has been using the Benetics app—with remarkable results across all generations.

When Paper Becomes a Problem

“The longer a project lasts, the more plans and papers pile up. You always need to keep track of them, but that doesn’t actually get the work done,” explains 22-year-old electrician Nils Weber, describing the daily challenges. It’s a problem that Roland Ravlija, Head of Installations and member of the management team, and project manager Mauro Puzzo know all too well: misplaced task lists, outdated plans, and wasted trips between the construction site and the office cost time—and often nerves.

The Path to a Digital Solution

“We debated for a long time whether or not to do it,” recalls Roland about the decision to implement Benetics. The decisive realization was that younger technicians always have their smartphones with them—but not necessarily the essential plans and papers. Mauro adds: “You need to provide employees with tools that simplify their work and motivate them, rather than forcing them to stick with outdated processes.”

Better Results Than Expected

After a pilot project, it quickly became clear: Benetics simplifies work for all generations. “Task lists used to get lost; now everything is stored directly in the app and accessible anywhere,” says Roland. For project manager Mauro, the impact is clear: “Our processes are now more structured and simpler, and fewer mistakes happen.”

What’s especially impressive: Nils uses the app 10 to 12 times a day and works almost completely paper-free. “I always have everything I need on my phone,” he says. “If there are changes, I know about them right away. I don’t even need printed plans anymore for installations or measurements.”

Main Benefits

  • Time and cost savings: “In addition to saving time, every printed plan costs money.”
  • Improved communication: “During an inspection, we create deficiency and task lists digitally on the spot. Tasks are assigned immediately.”
  • Motivated employees: “It’s great to give employees the right tools for even better work—especially in times of a skilled labor shortage.”

Conclusion: Digital, but Not at Any Cost

For EW Wald, maintaining personal connections is crucial. “People still start their day at the office. We all value personal interaction,” emphasizes Roland. The Benetics app is a practical tool that makes the workday significantly easier, enhancing direct communication rather than replacing it.

“For me, this solution is perfect,” concludes Nils. A perspective that shows: when digitalization genuinely simplifies daily work, it’s embraced by all generations.
